THE
RESEARCH

STATUS / ACTIVE LONGITUDINAL INQUIRY

A first-person investigation of smartphone removal and the reconstruction of analogue scholarly and everyday life.

01 / WHAT

WHAT IS THE RESEARCH?

A longitudinal inquiry conducted from inside the experiment. The researcher is also the subject, reconstructing everyday systems of attention, memory, work, creativity and connection without the smartphone as default infrastructure.

02 / PROBLEM

WHY REMOVE THE PHONE?

The phone is treated as an environmental condition, not merely a device. Removing it makes its displaced practices, habits and dependencies easier to observe.

03 / MISSION

RETURN TO THE REAL

Rediscovering material practices, analogue scholarship, creativity, attention, slowness, boredom, presence and ordinary life.

OBSERVATION FIELD / A

WHAT IS BEING OBSERVED?

Attention, autonomy, material life, creativity, connection, identity, work, meaning and habit.

METHOD FIELD / B

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Autoethnography, longitudinal observation, field notes, video diaries, photographs, artefacts, logs, experiments and journals.

04 / SCHOLARSHIP

BE YOUR OWN SCHOLAR.

Academic Soulcraft extends serious inquiry, observation, learning and documentation beyond the boundaries of formal institutions, while retaining intellectual care and methodological honesty.

05 / OPEN LAB

OPEN LABORATORY NOTEBOOK

The process can remain visible while it unfolds rather than presenting only polished conclusions afterwards.
